Northern Lights Photo

Norðurljós

Again I am publishing an old photo from my northern lights collection. The reason: The sun is not sending sunstorms our ways that form northern lights. Not that I don’t have enough of northern lights photos, but I am waiting for the possibility to take new photos of the northern lights.
And it’s one of the most fun things I do, to be traveling outside in the darkness and cold.

During a photo shoot to capture northern lights, you have to dress up in a very well insulated snow suit as you are not going back into the car until the end. The tripod has to be set up at a very well-thought out place and all the equipment needs to be set. Then the wait begins. You either lay down on the snow or the bare frozen-solid ground and just stare up into the sky and look for a shooting star and every time you see one, you can make a wish that usually comes true. It may also be a good idea to have a thermos with some good coffee and a sandwich with smoked salmon. The only condition is that you caught the salmon yourself, processed it and smoked. Sometimes, when I am laying on the ground, I simply fall asleep and miss the northern lights… Other times I am fortunate enough to have the company of a girlfriend when shooting the northern lights. What a romantic setting. That’s why most of those trips end in such a way that you forget all about the northern lights, or you see them coming and just enjoy looking at them in a different way. You should try it at least once, that kind of a memory never leaves your mind.

  1. I have never seen the Northern Lights firsthand and hope to someday. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photo’s to capture the mesmerizing affect it can have on people. Look forward to more photos. I took look at some other sites that have your photo’s that Kris from New England sent to me. They are absolutely gorgeous. I can never seem to caputre landscapes as you have but I try to capure emotions through pictures of my children. Some are better than others but I am still working on it. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. Oh that is beautiful. My parents are always talking about going to see the Northern Lights. I love the nights you explain :)
