This magical moment I capture is taken in Dalvík in a small town outside Akureyri in Northern Iceland.

The second weekend of August each year, local fishing and fish processing companies join forces to offer a great feast of seafood dishes and a programme of entertainment, all for free. The Great Fish Day is most certainly a day you do not want to miss, A variety of fish such as haddock, cod, salmon, redfish and catfish was prepared in various marinades and grilled in fourteen different areas. Dalvik residents used the longest barbecue in Iceland, measuring eight meters and equipped with twenty gas burners. What a wonderful weekend! Around 35.000 people were in this little town. Everybody enjoying fish and friendship.

The atmosphere was so wonderful, everybody happy and friendly.

Dalvik is a town on a synonymous cove, which branches off Bay Eyjafjordur, Iceland’s longest bay. The town is situated at the mouth of the fertile valley Svarfadardalur. Its economy is based on fishing and the fish industry, but the travel trade has shown steady increase. Like in most places in north and northwest Iceland skiing is a popular sport and the facilities rate among the best. There is a variety of interesting places to explore and daily whale watching cruises are on offer during summer.
